Together we're making municipalities more liveable

Since 1995, Greenwheels has been making both large and small municipalities more livable. Car sharers consciously choose to travel by bike or public transport instead of using a car. Because our cars are used by multiple users, fewer cars are needed. Independent research has shown that on average 14 parking spots become available for every Greenwheels shared car placed. This frees up space for more fun things like greenery or play areas.

A private car in the Netherlands isn't used for 23 out of 24 hours and that's a shame, because parked cars take up a lot of space. Space that can’t be used for something else. That's why there are shared cars: a car which you have at your disposal, not that you own. A car you can use one moment to get a day out with the family and the next day to pick up a second-hand sofa. A car you can share, so it's on the move and parked less.

This is how we make neighborhoods more liveable together

With thousands of shared cars, from Up! to the electric CITIGOe, and 25 years of experience, we contribute the success of car sharing. More and more people are choosing the shared cars of Greenwheels. It's eco-friendly and supports urban development.

Car ownership -30%

Thanks to our smart network from shared cars throughout the Netherlands, there is always a car nearby. 30% of Greenwheels users have given up their own car.*

One Greenwheels car replaces 14 others of the street

One Greenwheels car placed means 14 cars in the neighborhoud; meanwhile 40.600 private cars on the street. On average, 25 people make use of a Greenwheels car.*

Location-based now and in the future

94% agree with the typical Greenwheels system, where each car is located at a fixed spot, also known as location-based or station-based car sharing.*

* Research agency Goudappel Coffeng, mobility consultants, conducted a representive study among approximately 800 car sharers. Read more about the research.

Our view on car sharing policy

For more than 25 years, we have worked closely and constructively with 200 municipalties across the  Netherlands to formalize our shared ambition: shaping livable cities together.

The possibilities: free floating and/of station-based carsharing

With Greenwheels and our station-based concept, you always have the certainty of a car at a fixed, designed location. That's not the case with free-floating. We see free-floating as a complement to station-based car sharing, but certainly not a replacement. Research shows that free-floating is more expensive, less reliable and more complex to use. People don't trust the fact that the car is always at a fixed location. That's why it's not an 'either-or' but a 'both-and' solution.

“When I need a car, I want the guarantee that one will be available, not the hassle of searching for one first.”

New housing: the opportunity to get it right from the start

With new housing developments, the question often arises whether and how parking standards can be reduced. Car sharing a part of the solution. It's important to inform (potential) residents at the very start of the project. The sooner residents become familiar with shared cars, the better the usage and parking benefits will be. Also when redeveloping existing residential areas, it is smart to consider how shared cars can be integrated. We would be happy to collaborate with you on this.

MORE INFORMATION

More space, less cars?

25 drivers share the same car. Since they started using Greenwheels, they rid of 8 cars and avoided purchasing 6 more. That means 14 fewer cars, which creates more space for children, greenery and other facilities.
