Instructions: Petrol or diesel car
Here you'll find all the guidance you need before you hit the road with a Greenwheels car.
Good to know: each shared car has its own designated location, usually a reserved parking spot. You'll find the car there when you start your trip and return it there at the end. This means you don't have to search for parking at the end of your trip!
Quickly find what you're looking for:
- Open the car and drive off
- Making a stop and parking during your trip
- Refuelling
- Return and end your trip
Open the car and drive off
Here's how you start your Greenwheels trip:
- Unlock the car using the app.
- The app will ask you to enter you personal Greenwheels PIN either in the app itself or in the on-board computer. If present, you can find the on-board computer in the glove compartment.
- Take the key from the glove compartment. You’ll find it either in the on-board computer, or in the key and card holder on the left side.
- Start the car and you're ready to drive away!
Making a stop and parking during your trip
Are you stopping somewhere with the car during your booking? Take the key with you and use it to lock the car. You can also unlock the car with the key when you're ready to drive again. Use the app only to start and end your Greenwheels booking.
Here's how parking works: you have to pay for parking at the designated location of the Greenwheels car. If you're on the road and park in a paid parking zone, you'll need to cover the local parking rate yourself. There's also a parking disc in the glove compartment if you need it.
Refuelling
Refuelling is included in the price of your trip. In the glove compartment, you'll find a fuel card that allows you to refuel for free. It's important to end your Greenwheels trip with at least a quarter tank of fuel. This ensures a worry-free trip for the next driver and helps you avoid a fine.
Follow the steps below when you stop by the gas station.
- Open the Greenwheels app, go to your trip, and select the ‘Refuel’ option. Here you will find the PIN for the fuel card.
- Take the fuel card from the glove compartment. You'll find it either in the on-board computer or in the key and card holder on the left side of the glove compartment. All our cars run on petrol (E10), only our Caddy van runs on diesel (B7).
- Take a look at the mileage on the odometer and enter this number in the app. You need the mileage when paying.
- Open the fuel lid. Then insert the key into the fuel cap, and turn it to the left until it opens.
- At an unmanned petrol station, first pay by inserting the fuel card and following the instructions. The machine will ask you for ‘vervangend vervoer’ (replacement transport). Select ‘NEE’ (No) and enter the correct mileage. Fill the car with the correct fuel.
At a manned petrol station, first fill the car with the correct fuel, then pay inside with the fuel card. You will also need the correct mileage for this. - Close the fuel cap and put the fuel card back in the on-board computer or the key and card holder in the glove compartment.
Return and end your trip
At the end of your trip, return the Greenwheels car to its fixed, designated location. You can find this spot in the app while you're driving. Here's how to end your trip:
- If you're parked at the usual Greenwheels car spot, you can turn off the car.
- Put the key back in the glove compartment. Here you’ll find either an on-board computer where you insert the key or a key and card holder on the left side of the glove compartment.
- Make sure all the lights are off, take your stuff and any trash, and close the windows and doors. Step out and lock the car using the Greenwheels app. Don't forget to end your booking.
